Centrifugal Blowers and Fans

A fan or blower is an electromechanical device used for moving air or gasses. They are found almost in all kinds of industrial and household applications.

Common examples include axial fans (propeller fans), centrifugal fans, cross flow fans and mixed flow fans. Though we offer a variety of products, centrifugal fans are the most popular products.

Centrifugal Blower Fans: When a blower fan operates, the airflow gets into the blade space from fan’s axial direction increasing the pressure of the air or gas and changing the direction (usually by 90°) of the airflow with the impeller rotation. The airflow leaves the impeller in a radial direction due to the centrifugal force serving the ventilation purpose.

Structure: Blower motor, blower wheels or centrifugal impellers (forward curved, back curved or radial direction impellers), fan housing, and a transmission bearing or a shaft.

Though various industrial processes and air pollution control systems utilize centrifugal blowers, the HVAC industry (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) is the primary market for these products.

How to Select the Right Centrifugal Blower or Fan?

  • Confirm the fundamental parameters such as air flow, total pressure, efficiency, motor speed, and power. You may also need to select different types of centrifugal fans based on the physical and chemical properties of the delivery gasses.
  • Make sure to compare the net pipe resistance characteristics with the centrifugal fan characteristics. The centrifugal fan needs to work at its highest efficiency. So, select the work point located at the right side of the peak point of the total pressure on the performance curve of a given centrifugal fan.
  • You should consider the piping system leakage, the calculation error, the actual airflow amount and negative pressure deviation as well. Usually, the air volume safety factor is from 1.05 to 1.10 while the pressure safety factor ranges from 1.10 to 1.15.
  • Avoid thinking about just one-time investment issues, instead, browse through a variety of fans to select the most efficient, lightweight, and compactly designed product that suits your application requirements. It is important to consider the long-term economic benefits.
